DESIGN MANIFESTO
The 1996 Fugees album “The Score” is the inspiration behind The Fax logo. As the group formed in South Orange, New Jersey, we decided to pay homage to our own Essex County roots through recognizing the impact of this unprecedented and highly acclaimed album. This soulful rap album infused hip hop, reggae, and socially conscious lyrics, and deservedly, skyrocketed all three artists’ careers individually.
At the forefront of the industry, Lauryn Hill used her voice to speak out about the plight of Black people and prompt social change. Ms. Hill’s later album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” was inspired by Carter G. Woodson’s book “The Mis-Education of the Negro” which speaks on the miseducation of Black people by American schooling, affirming that the lack of accurate education on Black history has lead Black Americans to be complacent in an unjust system.
At The Fax, we see art as a tool for social activism.
